McMaster Concert Band

Orchestra Director, Joseph Resendes

About the McMaster Concert Band

The McMaster University Concert Band (MCB), under the direction of Joseph Resendes, has been a leading ensemble within the School of the Arts and the Hamilton community for 50 years!  The ensemble is comprised of 70+ enthusiastic and talented wind, brass, and percussion players belonging to various disciplines and degree programs across campus. It is our mission to prepare and perform quality wind band literature while providing our musicians with a rewarding artistic experience. This is accomplished through creative thematic programming, focused music proficiency, and meaningful collaborative experiences with other students, faculty, and guest artists.

Students are encouraged to take concert band for credit. The MCB rehearses once per week and performs 3 regular performances in addition to collaborative performances and community engagements that are scheduled throughout the year.

Whether you want to be challenged as a player or just want to have fun playing music, the McMaster University Concert Band will not disappoint!

Auditions are open to all McMaster University students.

McMaster – Virtual Winds Project

ISS Flyover (Peter Meechan)

The Virtual Winds Project was created by Joseph Resendes with the collaboration of five music educators from neighbouring schools in the region. High School students were invited to participate in a virtual experience with the McMaster University Concert Band during the late Fall of 2020. The results of the pandemic has greatly affected schools and their instrumental/music programs across the country. Given the many challenges our educators were facing in delivering music courses, the concept of a larger scale virtual performance seemed like the perfect opportunity to engage our students, while providing them with a sense of purpose and responsibility in preparing and recording their individual parts. Through the hard work and dedication of our educators and students, we were successful in collecting a total of 200 audio and video recordings. My sincerest thanks to all the teachers for their support, and continued efforts in preparing these exceptionally talented young musicians. To composer Peter Meechan, our thanks for your continuous support of young musicians and in allow us to perform and record ‘ISS Flyover’ virtually. Finally, my thanks to all the student participants for sharing your music with us, and the world! Stay Healthy, stay safe, and stay musical!
