Tom Corken – Choral Conducting Masterclass
Honours music program student Thomas Corken was recently selected as one of three undergrad students in Canada to be a participant in Choral Canada‘s national choral conducting conference Masterclass – the only one of its kind in Ontario.
Tom is in his final year of study. He began undergraduate studies at the University of Toronto and sang with the MacMillan Singers under Dr. Hilary Apfelstadt. He transferred to McMaster University and is now the tenor section lead in the McMaster University Choir under Dr. Tracy Wong. He has worked as rehearsal assistant with the Hamilton Children’s Choir Ilumini choir under Zimfira Poloz for the last year and a half, and also co-directs the Lads & Gents tenor and bass ensemble with Brent Fifield. He was selected to conduct at the 2019 York/OBA Wind Conductors Symposium for Eugene Corporon, Past President of the College Band Directors National Association. Thomas continues to conduct vocal ensembles on campus.
Despite the cancellation of the conference (due to pandemic restrictions), we congratulate Tom on being selected for this prestigious spot in Choral Canada’s Masterclass, and wish him continued success!
