Baritone Kyle Guglielmo Wows Broadway Music Class

On February 4th, baritone Kyle Guglielmo wowed students in Dr. Lara Housez’s Music 2TT3 lecture on the Rodgers and Hammerstein classic Oklahoma!. Mouths gaped open as he gave a thrilling performance of “The Surrey with the Fringe on Top” with TA Katie Van Kampen as Laurey and Dr. Housez as Aunt Eller. Mr. Guglielmo’s electrifying rendition and engaging discussion of the song helped students apply what they have learned in the classroom to a live performance. For a few minutes, students felt as though they had been transported from the basement of Togo Salmon Hall to a big Broadway theatre.

Mr. Guglielmo’s notable musical theatre performances include Curly in Oklahoma! at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, broadcast in HD on North Carloina Public Television, and Giuseppe Naccarelli in The Light in the Piazza with Piedmont Opera. He can be heard as a Collegian in Jerome Kern’s Roberta on the New World Records 2014 cast album. Born in Boston, Mr. Guglielmo is freshly settled in Hamilton and calls himself “a grateful permanent resident of Canada.”
