The Topaz Duo – Free Lunchtime Concert
They began playing as a duet in 2008, while University of Toronto students, and have been performing ever since.
Kaili Maimets and Angela Schwarzkopf are The Topaz Duo. They showcase a varied repertoire, along with a highly professional level of musical interpretation that is sure to be crowd-pleasing.
Flutist Kaili Maimets is in demand as an orchestral performer, chamber musician, and soloist. She is currently Acting Second Flute and Piccolo of the National Arts Centre Orchestra of Canada (NACO) from 2017. She held the Second Flute & Piccolo position of the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony for 2 seasons and was Principal Flute of London Symphonia (formerly Orchestra London) for 4 seasons. She has also performed with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra and the National Ballet of Canada.
Harpist Angela Schwarzkopf concertizes as a soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral harpist. The first harpist to receive a Doctorate of Music in harp performance in Canada, she now teaches at a number of esteemed institutions (including McMaster University) and performs with top ensembles nationwide. Favorite performances include performing the double harp concerto The Passion of Angels by Canadian Composer Marjan Mozetich with fellow harpist Erica Goodman and the Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra, and sharing the stage with acclaimed harpist Judy Loman in a joint recital at the Royal Conservatory of Music Faculty Series.
