On Friday, May 3rd, the 29th Annual Reginald Bedford Piano Scholarship Competition took place in L.R. Wilson’s Concert Hall. Our faculty adjudicators, Matthew Woolhouse and Alexei Gulenco selected a winner, Mathew Montani, current McMaster student.
The Reginald Bedford Award is valued at $1,000, and is made possible through a generous donation from Mrs. Evelyn Bedford, in memory of her late husband, a teacher, a performer and teacher, who also happened to be a member of McMaster’s piano faculty.
This competition is open to all pianists who are currently enrolled, or will be enrolled in the music program at McMaster University.
Mathew not only receives the $1,000 scholarship, but will also have the honour of playing a piece at next spring’s Humanities Awards Assembly. It is at this ceremony that the Bedford Medal of Excellence in Piano Playing will be awarded as well.
