 Art Portfolio Interview

If you intend to study studio art at McMaster, you must meet the general entrance requirements to the Faculty of Humanities and pass our portfolio interview.

When you come to campus for your interview, you will learn what McMaster has to offer you. You will have an opportunity to meet studio faculty and students and to see our facilities. Most importantly, your questions and concerns will be answered so that you can make an informed choice about your future studies.

You are encouraged to bring any work which you feel represents your creativity and interests to the interview. We suggest about 20 items of work, but you may bring additional work to be discussed if time allows.  Your portfolio may include works derived both from first-hand observation and the imagination. Consider including pieces which demonstrate the range of your experience such as drawings, colour exploration, three-dimensional works, photography, print media, computer image-making, design work, etc. We are always interested to hear about creative endeavours you may be involved with in other artistic disciplines such as music, dance or theatre. Don’t limit yourself to highly finished pieces, we are also happy to see sketchbooks and preliminary works.

You are also asked to provide a copy of your transcript at the time of the interview. Both academic and creative abilities are considered in our selection process.
