Valerie Tryon, Order of Canada

Classical pianist Valerie Tryon was recently invested into the Order of Canada. Created in 1967, the Order of Canada, one of our country’s highest civilian honours, recognizes outstanding achievement, dedication to the community and service to the nation.  Ms. Tryon is being commended for her internationally celebrated career as a pianist and for her contributions as an educator and builder of classical music culture.

Ms. Tryon’s ties to McMaster’s School of the Arts are many: in the 1970s she was an associate professor of music, in 1980 she was named McMaster’s first artist-in-residence, and in 2006 she was awarded an honorary doctorate by the university.  Ms. Tryon’s list of achievements reach far beyond the university community: in June she was presented with a lifetime achievement award at the City of Hamilton Arts Awards.
