Big Band Swings Into Mac
The joint’ll be jumpin’ in the new L.R. Wilson Concert Hall on September 29th! The Jimmy Stahl Big Band, featuring crooner Ron Dewberry and vocalist Geneviève-Renée Bisson, will be performing favourites from their showcases American Songbook and Sounds of Sinatra.
Founded in 1977, THE JIMMY STAHL BIG BAND has headlined tours while performing extensively throughout Ontario, New York, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Ohio. Beginning as a gospel big band with Swingin’ in the Pews, the project has recently added two more showcases: American Songbook and Sounds of Sinatra. The JSB have had the honour of collaborating with a variety of Grammy Award-winning artists such as Ralph Carmichael, Dave Boyer, Phil Driscoll, Ron Kenoly, and Kathy Troccoli. Some of these collaborations were in-studio recordings, while others were live tapings of television specials that aired on NBC, TNN, Global and CTS television networks. Individually as sidemen, band members have worked with legends Doc Severinsen, Tom Jones, Debbie Boone, Pat Boone, Vic Damone, The Yellow Jackets, and Ray Charles. Tonight, The Jimmy Stahl Big Band will be performing selections from the Sounds of Sinatra show featuring the very gifted RON DEWBERRY, one of Canada’s finest crooners. The evening will also include excerpts from American Songbook featuring GENEVIÈVE-RENÉE BISSON, a new vocalist on the big band circuit whose musical talents are diverse and articulate. Of course, the night would not be complete without a number of straight up swingin’ big band instrumental standards. Audiences everywhere have fallen in love with the Jimmy Stahl Big Band, and we trust you will as well. Enjoy the show!
